Activated Charcoal Carbon is a Great Business

Green technology is getting a tremendous amount of support and for very good reason. Our current energy and environmental solutions always have room for improvement and at the current pace of energy use and pollutant output we are rapidly using up our planet’s resources and dirtying up rivers and our air. These are not renewable resources and as such it is critical that we take steps to ensure we preserve resources and keep our environment clean. People are realizing this in mass numbers and governments are putting forth a great deal of money and programs to ensure we develop more sustainable ways of living. The glamour industries though tend to get all of the attention when it comes to environmental solutions and so we hear a ton about solar, wind, fuel cells, and other high-end technology which is in many cases still many years away from practical high-volume commercialization. These endeavors are all critical as we do need long-term solutions but the reality is we need to start taking steps today to preserve the environment. This is where technology such as activated charcoal carbon comes into play. Activated carbon filters do a tremendous job of keeping pollutants out of water and air and can be produced in mass quantities today to reduce our emissions.

ACTIVATED CARBON AND ITS USES

If one useful substance has been discovered from tons of tons of wasteful materials, in the recent past, it has been activated carbon. Activated carbon has been extracted coconut shells, date seeds and such things which were considered useless, hitherto. It would not be out of place if activated carbon is termed one of the greatest discoveries of the decade. The importance of activated in water filtration has already been established. People using other forms of filtration for household requirements are presently switching over to activated carbon induced filtration for drinking water as well as for bathing and washing purposes. The role of activated carbon as an important component in air fresheners is also very well known. The tiny pores in the activated carbon absorb the pollutants in the atmosphere rendering the air clean and pure for us to breathe.

The application of activated carbon in water filtration involves two stages. Firstly, the gross impurities in the water are segregated by any simple process. Once the visible residues are removed, the water is then passed through the presence of activated carbon, which on account of its adsorption properties, sucks in all harmful and toxic chemicals from the water and renders the water safe for drinking purposes, at the same time such minerals are still retained in the water that are essential for the body.

Apart from this, the role of activated carbon in detoxification or cleansing of the system to rid the body of all toxins cannot be refuted. Activated carbon in combination with other materials or herbs forms a fine external applicant for diseases like gout. Activated carbon taken prior to meals puts gastric ailments to rest. Its use as anti-pollutant has found favor in big industries already. Activated carbon is truly one of the best discoveries for the good of all living beings in the biosphere.

Cleaning Up Our Planet

Humans must coexist on this planet with all the other species and our obligations to other species as well as other humans is to use resources in such a way that the sustainability of the planet is maintained. This does not mean we should not partake in the conveniences and industries of modern life. Without living life and creating the resources humans need then any effort at conservation is fruitless. But the output we do produce as a result of our industry and production needs to be performed in a responsible manner. Many of the outputs of human production are very messy and the by products of manufacturing products are often harmful the environment by polluting both the air and water. These are resources that we rely on and that are extremely vital to life. If we ruin these resources we will all be in big trouble. Given this filtering the pollutants out of the waste of industrial production is important to our long term well being. Fortunately we do have excellent filtration compounds with one of the best being activated charcoal. Activated carbon filter devices are excellent at filtering poisons and pollutants out of the air and water thus making industrial production much less toxic to the environment.

Using Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is ingested after ingestion of a poison or a drug overdose. In such an emergency charcoal may be mixed with water and swallowed in small amounts, usually one gram per kilogram of body weight. Alternatively it may be administered through a feeding tube to the stomach. The activated carbon will bind to the poison and lessen the effects.

Similarly activated charcoal may be used on insect bite victims.

This product can also help provide relief from problems such as bloating and certain other intestinal problems. In addition to the ingestion methods mentioned above, tablets of activated carbon are available.

It’s important to note though that activated carbon will react with certain foods and medicines. Vitamins may be absorbed at a slower rate and activated carbon may interfere with medications taken concurrently by preventing absorption into the bloodstream. Ingredients in ice cream and chocolate syrup may interfere with the properties of activated carbon and should not be eaten together with activated carbon. Two hours is generally considered to be an adequate amount of time to wait.

THE GOODNESS OF ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

Activated charcoal is the product of burnt wood, vegetables or other innate materials, ad hence could be rightly called a form of carbon. The uses of activated charcoal or activated carbon are plenty and even more uses are being discovered slowly. The unique property of activated carbon is adsorption, which helps not only at industrial and commercial levels, but also to eradicate many health related problems.

The various researches that are being conducted where activated carbon is concerned, has proved useful in curing many ailments or complaints connected with human beings. To cite a few, they would be detoxification or cleansing of human body. The cleansing would help in flushing out the toxins or poisonous substances from the body, that would have been ingested along with food , through air or skin. That way, it becomes an important aid in improving the immunity system of the body, rule out allergies or irregularities associated with digestive tract. It is said to help in alleviating flatus, and gas related upsets and reduce bloating too, on account gastric troubles.

One profound use of activated carbon would be - a major breakthrough in science – cutting down and impeding LDL cholesterol or bad cholesterol and promote the absorption of HDL Cholesterol or good cholesterol that strengthens the blood vessels. What more, It is a boon in he area of removing bad breath, diarrhea, cold and cough.

The contribution of this natural chemical cannot be overlooked in crisis situations. But every caution needs to be observed and medical help sought immediately. The dosages and the process of usage should be strictly under medical observation. Especially where, senior people, pregnant ladies and small children are concerned, every possible precaution should be exercised. Every medicine’s goodness can be tapped only with the right usage and right advice from the concerned professional.

Last but definitely not the least, the use of activated charcoal in the area of water filtration and cleaning of industrial effluents is enormous and widely implemented.

JAWA Wins Illinois Tap Water Taste Contest

It’s no wonder we Americans stock up on bottled water as if we were going on a week-long hike in Syria: tap water (usually) doesn’t taste very good. Even if we have to pay thousands of times more for the same amount of water, we’ve collectively decided it’s an acceptable cost. The Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (JAWA) is on its way to proving that paying $8 for what could cost quite literally two cents is simply unnecessary. Part of the secret to the water’s unusually good tast, according the water treatment plant’s representatives, is the clean water it gets from Lake Michigan.

The other half of the secret is JAWA’s water treatment procedure. First, the water is ozonated, which means that it is treated with ozone in order to kill microorganisms, instead of being initially treated with chlorine. Following this, the water is filtered through activated carbon - in other words, charcoal. Then quagulent is added, which is apparently some scientific goopy substance that causes all of the undesirable particles to clump together and sink to the bottom. Throw in a dash of ultraviolet light and just a bit of chlorine, and presto - the best tasting water in the Lake County region.
